In April, I joined a group of international journalists for an interactive cooking experience at the Ginger & Lime food studio in Fresnaye. Here’s what we got up to.

Siphokazi has an inspirational story. She worked as a domestic before MasterChef SA and has since published her own cookbook and hosts the Let’s Eat With Siphokazi show on DSTV’s Mzansi Magic.

Local dishes prepared and sampled included Bobotie, samosas, snoek pate with homemade mielie bread, boerewors on the braai, seared venison skewers with traditional South African pap and a cumin-pomegranate and fig glaze, and masala line fish with lentil curry.

Dishes demo’d by Siphokazi included flavourful lamb curry with sambals, as well as a mouth-watering vegetable curry with roti. For dessert, the group enjoyed koeksister ice-cream with reduced melktert-liqueur.
